Culture Competence

Cultural Competency Training

Maskwa Contracting Inc., places a strong emphasis on safety and cultural competency within our organization. As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we conduct formal monthly training sessions for all our supervisors. With our Indigenous Training and Employment Coordinators, we focus on the following key aspects:

Understanding of land acknowledgements
Indigenous culture and practices
Truth and Reconciliation
Treaties / Indian Act
Proper etiquette when addressing Elders, Chiefs, and Councillors
Keloka Contracting Corp. commitments to our Indigenous nation partners

As part of their onboarding process, all employees undergo Indigenous Awareness 101 training through Aboriginal Awareness Canada. This 90-minute online course lays the foundation for understanding Canada’s first people and guides employees on how to engage in a respectful and safe manner.

This initiative aims to enable our teams to build effective and positive relationships with Indigenous communities where we operate. Additionally, we provide more specific cultural competency training tailored to each nation we partner with, ensuring our teams understand and respect the unique values and traditions of those nations in their traditional territories.
